Randy Poe's Skydog: The Duane Allman Story is now available at your bookstore and online (see below).
Skydog reveals the true story of Duane Allman: his childhood and musical awakening; his struggling first bands; his hard-won mastery of the slide guitar; his emergence as an A-list session player; his creation of the Allman Brothers Band; his tragic death at age 24, and his thriving musical legacy.
Author Randy Poe taps the people who knew Duane best, chronicling the tumultuous era that shaped Allman and his music, and that he in turn transformed.
This riveting book includes a comprehensive discography of Duane Allman's work with his own bands and on other artists' recordings, a meticulously researched roundup of his studio and stage instruments, and a look at the continuing lives and careers of Allman's friends and bandmates.

Hey Johnny, Thought you might enjoy a photo from a recent gig in Westbury N.Y. Left to right: guitar - George "Senor Citizen" McCorkle, drummer - John "The Blonde" McKnight, sanger - Johnny "Wonder" Townsend, Bass- (back of head) - "Lonesome" Jack Hall, guitar - "Dangerous" Dan Toler. Not pictured, Taylor "The Nail" Caldwell - keyboards and vocals. This band kicks ass like not other I've ever played with. We just cut 3 killer songs at Ocean Way in Nashvegas and we're really excited about the possibilities. There's a buzz around Music City about the band and folks are starting to pay attention. I feel like one lucky son of a bitch to be playing with these guys and especially at our age. I've got the big 60 coming up next week. Light a candle for me. All the best, Johnny Townsend
